GUARDIAN NEPOTISM – ‘CLASS HATRED’ CLOSES FOGARTY TRAVEL BLOG!

PAUL GOGARTY  father of renowned nepotism beneficiary MAX GOGARTY has said the Guardian had to close his son’s Guardian  blog because of ‘CLASS HATRED’. The Observer devotes two major articles today to a toadying defence of nepotism, sinecures and general cronyism amongst the Guardian staff. PAUL GOGARTY claims to be only an ‘occasional’ contributor to the Guardian – but one who’d already taken Max abroad on Guardian freebies!

One down – Loads to go! DO YOU KNOW OF A CASE OF MEDIA NEPOTISM?  Are you a tortured unrecognised genius  who’s path is blocked by the privileged few? POST DETAILS HERE AND  RUN THE MEDIA NEPOTISM BLOG OF SHAME!

The shameless Fogartys have made it ito the Wikipedia definition of nepotism!

As of February 2008, there has also been controversy regarding the subject of nepotism in the media, when Max Gogarty – son of Paul Gogarty, a freelance travel writer who has written extensively for The Guardian, and taken his son abroad on numerous trips for the paper – was granted a Guardian online column detailing his gap year holiday. Many people, via the Guardian’s online comments, have stated that this opportunity would not have been given to someone who was not as well-connected; an argument denied by the Guardian’s travel editor

  • What a shame. That news has really spoiled my weekend. It just goes to show how many bitter snipers there are, all just waiting to shoot down anyone trying to take their first tenative steps in the world of work, following the trail laid by pater.

  • Perhaps the media should be forced to create a register, rather like the MPs register of interests, listing whether or not they employ any family members at their establishment.

I hope that in the interests of equality of opportunity, The Guardian/Observer could also give us a list of all trainees at Farringdon Road, letting us know whether they have any blood relatives higher up the Guardian food chain.

After all, who at The Guardian could possibly argue against such an equal opportunities policy?

  • Has anyone investigated one-hit-wonder Lily Allens nepotistic rise to fame yet? That should be an interesting read.

  • To be honest I wouldn’t have been bothered about the father/son relationship if the sons blog had a semblance of credibility, worth and merit. If the blog had not been so self indulgent and for want of a better word – shit – then I wouldn’t have battered an eyelid. As was, it was a pointless waste of space and I am glad it has been taken down!

Nice quote from his dad on there. Apparently WE’RE smug and self-righteous.

He’s a fucking hero on the BBC now( a poor victim of cyber-bullying) Well done guys.

  • Journalists really don’t get the citizen journalist/blogger thing…..or have any respect for their readers. None of this is shocking.

  • Oliver Kamm is the nephew of Martin Bell, and was employed by him from 1997-2001 as his assistant (on Parliament money). I wonder if his journalistic career would have been started without that connection?

  • Hey I bumped into Mad Mark yesterday evening! He, like many an old comrade has put on a few pounds but otherwise seems the same as ever. Red Beret, anarchy symbols a go go and the same old glint in his eye.
