The owners of the London Ritz are the ‘mysterious’ and ‘secretive’ Barclay brothers, big-time property scum with a background in owning casinos, who also happen to be business chums with Prince Charles. Funnily enough, they were lent money by the Crown Agents to buy several hotels, including on Park Lane. They haven’t paid a penny of tax on the London Ritz for years, and they own a small island off of Sark, which they have told their lawyers to argue isn’t subject to anyone’s law but their own. They own the Telegraph and Littlewoods as well as the London Ritz – in each case through offshore trusts. Quite interesting that their tax dodging is being mentioned in the same breath as Prince Charles’s. Prince Charles, a much bigger property scumbag, is in a business arrangement with the London Ritz (have a look here and here), and the Barclay brothers’ company Ellerman Investments used to be admitted to be a ‘sponsor’ of the ‘Prince’s Foundation’, although the Foundation removed that information from its website. Another ‘sponsor’ of the said Foundation was Arup, the international engineering firm that for a time was pushing the idea that poor people should live in skips.
