Stephen Hester may retreat to his garden but what will happen on open day?

One way Stephen Hester might wish to console himself over his decision to waive his bonusis to take a stroll around his country estate.

Broughton Grange, which is set in 350 acres of Oxfordshire parkland, boasts “one of the most significant private contemporary gardens in Britain”, according to its website. It offers many opportunities for contemplation and reflection. For example, the walled garden, which was laid out in 2000 by Tom Stuart-Smith, contains beech tunnels, topiary yews and pleached lime squares.

But the tranquillity might well be interrupted on 29 April when the garden is opened to the public to raise money for charity. Ian Bone, a campaigner who founded the Class War newspaper in the 1980s, has called on his blog for people to use the open day as an excuse to gather at Hester’s “country pile” for “fun and games”, adding that “our French comrades will be visiting his ski lodge at Verbier on the same day”.

Can someone – Dave, warren, paul? – knock up an amended version of the Hester hunting class war poster with HUNT THE RICH aong bottom off photo instead of the scumbag bit and another version with OCCUPY HESTER APRIL 29th along bottom. Ta.

The rich are on the backfoot. Contrary to their own self promotion they don’t like it up ‘em. You have to make it personal to get to these fuckers. It’s no good droning on about capitalism in the abstract – they couldn’t give a toss about that. Make it personal though and they turn into the runny bottom brigade. …as in the case of Stephen Hester. Sir Fred became Sir Fled after a couple of broken windows in his mansion……couple of broken windows at RBS wouldn’t have bothered him. Some ant-capitalist protestor said ‘ It’s not about stephen hester ….NO IT FUCKING WELL IS ABOUT HESTER. This time IT IS personal. Class War once had a cover similar to the photo below of RBS toerag STEPHEN HESTER with the caption ‘YOU RICH FUCKING SCUMBAG – WE’RE GOING TO GET YOU. Well now we have another chance – the mood of our class is with us – we need some daring and sustained actions to spread the anger from this one scumbag to the rest of his class. THEY ARE ALL STEPHEN HESTERS. Hesther is of course OXFORD educated, owns a vast country pile and his wife is master of the warwick fox hunt and he regulsrly hosts hunt balls at his country mansion. To all you hunt sabs out there – now’s the time to hunt this fucking scumbag.

But while Mr Hester may have ‘lost’ the London home, he can fall back on his vast country pile in Oxfordshire, a 350-acre estate complete with eight gardeners. And there is always the ski chalet in Verbier.

The Oxford-educated banker met his estranged wife Barbara when both were working at Credit Suisse.

They married in 1991. The couple divided their time between London and Oxfordshire and shared a love of fox-hunting – she is a master of foxhounds for the Warwickshire Hunt.

Shortly after taking over the helm at state-owned RBS in 2008, Mr Hester faced immediate criticism over his indulgent lifestyle after hosting a lavish hunt ball at his £7million country estate.
