It seems barely credible now that IN 1963 The Bristol Bus Company would not employ black drivers or conductors.

In 1963, Paul and others led a boycott of Bristol buses in protest at the Bristol Bus Company’s official policy of refusing to employ black drivers and conductors.

The protest was based on the Montgomery Bus Boycott, a seminal event in the US civil rights movement. The fight was won but not without hardship and struggle. You can read the full story in this book published by Tangent.

    A quick perusal on Wiki shows that the TGWU were behind the refusal to employ black and Asian bus crews
