David Cameron has held crisis talks at Downing Street after being told of allegations of a sensational love affair which has potentially significant political implications for him.

For legal reasons, The Mail on Sunday cannot disclose the identities of the people involved or any details of the relationship – even its duration – other than that they are middle-aged figures. The affair has now concluded.

But this newspaper can report that when aides told Mr Cameron the identities of the alleged lovers he was ‘stunned’, and, according to sources, ‘immediately realised the importance of the story’.

The Prime Minister and his aides also discussed the possible fallout should details of the affair become public – and how such disclosure could ‘blow out of the water’ any major political set pieces planned by No 10.

One senior source told this newspaper last night: ‘This revelation is dynamite. None of us could believe it when we first heard it. Then we just thought, “What a complete mess”.’

The source added that, apart from the political implications, the revelation had caused ‘great personal distress to innocent parties’

There must be more to it than just an affair if it has poential to bring down the govt. -it either involves Cameron himself or has implications along the lines of the alleged affair between Adam Werrity and Liam Fox. Could be fuck all -could be bread shagging circuses, but with another 3 ‘Lords’ just been had in another lobbying sting, the bigger picture is even less people voting for these greedy pigs, and support for UKIP and the EDL bigot monster

    • Just Think

According to The Telegraph, those involved are supposed not to be in the cabinet. It didn’t say if they ever were. What about a wife or partner of one senior cabinet member with a very senior cabinet member. That would split the cabinet, especially if its Lib Dem on Tory. Oh the thought.

  2. I bet Boris is well pleased about this

    • b

You haven’t heard the alternative theory to “AC-RB” then? I don’t reckon Boris is pleased about it at all.

  3. Bedroom Tax Dodger

This ‘story’ will die a natural death because the visual images involving any of the top Tories are too ghastly to contemplate … I mean Michael Gove and Theresa May for example … Eric Pickles and, well anyone quite frankly … Grant Shapps and a full length mirror/estate agents’ window, David Cameron and someone he met at AA?

  4. Dorchestergirl

My bet is on 2 blokes, i or both of whom voted against gay marriage.

Hipocrits. Freedom of speach. They are in the public eye. Why are they not named. I bet hey are trying to hide behind the ‘the right to family life!’ They should have thought about that before they had the affair.

    • “They should have thought about that before they had the affair.”

They did all think about writing the legislation ‘the right to a family life’ before they had the affair. That’s why they wrote it. The Human Rights Act gives governments, using clauses, legitimacy to remove your rights. You can’t do this, but they can. Without this, you would have still had your God Given Rights. Human Rights are simply to manage the farm. Since when have we recently had any freedom of speech? Hate Speech is who chooses to be offended.

All we have is newspapers, and reporters, who pretend to do their jobs, with a government that pretend to do theirs. A house of cards.

  6. Bluecat

Eric Pickles and Michael Gove? Cartoon fatcat sitting amorously on cartoon mouse.

  7. Bluecat

Is it a gay affair and does it involve anyone who publicly opposes equal marriage?

    • Blackdog

I assume all MPs oppose equal marriage. I have not heard any of them advocate legalising incest, polygamy or asexual marriages.

  8. don soft

Read the Daily Mail article again, carefully

For only one of these two is an MP

    Probably “C”s wife ——!!!

  10. Katrina

It’s not current cabinet members……so maybe it’s people who had been in the cabinet and are not now…….presumably these are two people who had influence previously otherwise it wouldn’t matter and the government wouldn’t be in danger.

How come they can`t be named . What makes them different from everybody else. Oh silly me , it might interfere with the M.P`s gravy train. Oh for an mp with the countries interests at heart. Anyone know of any.?

    • Thee is one ethical m.p. in paliament- Caroline Lucas. Honest, straightforward and Green…

    • barclay

Surely if the political implications of the affair are so serious then it is in the public interest for the details to be published and this would override any legal objections on the grounds of privacy or whatever. This suggests that the DM is up to its usual tricks of puffing something relatively insignificant into a major issue. Publish and be damned!

  17. scherben

I don’t expect you to publish this, but someone thinks they have an answer

    (I bet it’s bullshit, myself)

  18. jay wold

Who cares? Other than the respective spouses is it anyone else’s concern? 2 adults decide to play away. So what? Did they cost the taxpayer any more money than they would have been due? Did they break ‘national security’? Did they commit treason? No. All they did was have sex with someone who was not the legal spouse. This story is a mask for something else as the public prefers titillation to news. Watch the UK invade Syria on some ludicrous ‘humanitarian’ pretext.

    • John Syme

It matters when they belong to a party that attempts to interfere with the personal lives of all of us on a daily basis.

  19. barclay

    How is ACRB political dynamite?

  20. b

Just for the sake of reporting what’s being said… The Evening Standard are saying the pair are “two senior political figures”.

    • phil p

“political figures” could mean spouses of a politician, or any person employed in a political capacity. it could be anyone.

      • b

I know who the two people are. The Evening Standard are throwing out chaff, on orders. Most politicians’ spouses and most political journalists aren’t political figures. Chaff is being put out through other sources too.

ACRB = Andy Carroll + Roseanne Barr

There is something of the night about *Ann Widdecombe and her love of *Margaret Thatcher…

Once again Cameron’s bad judgement .
I do not trust him at all .
Best thing he could do his step down as PM

  24. James

A cabinet PPS may be able to shed more light on this.
