I wouldn’t even bury the scum id use them as dog food!!!
CW needs to get on to the Red Road business in Glasgow, pronto.
16000 people have already signed an online petition against the planned demolition.
To recap: the authorities are planning to blow up 5 enormous blocks (some are 30 storeys high) as part of the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony. The message is that working class scum are people of the past, with no future.
The petition is here.
This is what the petitioners say in their own words:
“Many people are dismayed by this proposal. The reasons are many: the disrespect displayed by blowing up homes for entertainment; the mixed and complex message of ‘regeneration’ by destruction; the insult to the families remaining in the sixth block; the disruption to families and the city at the time of a huge event; the uncertainty around safety in the context of such a big demolition project; the additional pressure placed on public services when the city will be welcoming thousands of international visitors.”
Note what they put first of all: the disrespect displayed by blowing up homes for entertainment.
I suggested blowing up a mock Buckingham Palace as a counter-spectacle. But now we’ve got a line that’s even clearer:
SUPPORT THIS PETITION, AND IF THE AUTHORITIES AND GAMES ORGANISERS DON’T WITHDRAW THEIR PLAN TO DEMOLISH THE FLATS, LET’S PHYSICALLY STOP THEM DOING SO
The planned demolition is quite a disgusting insult to working class people in Glasgow. Obvious questions aren’t even getting mentioned, such as
* what do the people who were moved out of the flats think of being moved out?
* where are they now?
* are they better or worse off?
* how will they fare in the future?
Those were seen as the key questions when people moved out of the slum into places like the Red Road.
LET THEM BE THE KEY QUESTIONS AGAIN
And the 5th question:
* what do they think of the idea that their homes, from which they were forcibly moved out, should be blown up for entertainment?
The authorities are planning to evacuate people from nearby homes. We only need a few people to declare that they refuse to be evacuated. Do the cops want to be filmed dragging people out of their homes, just so that the flats opposite can be blown up to sell the Commonwealth Games?
Here is a typical comment from someone who has signed the petition:
“How vulgar and callous. As part of a clearance myself (in Sighthill) I know the human cost and heartbreak behind the people forced out of these homes. Glasgow City Council should hang it’s head in shame at this vulgar, ghastly idea. It’s like some ancient Roman emperor has gone mad…let’s not buy fireworks…let’s blow up poor people’s homes to welcome guests.“
