Mortar boards off to Simon Henderson, the 38-year-old head of Bradfield College, who is to be the next headmaster of Eton.
Trendy Hendy, as he is dubbed, was head of history at Eton before going to Sherborne as deputy and then Bradfield.
His appointment may bring back unhappy memories for some old boys. The last head of Bradfield to go on to Eton was Anthony Chenevix-Trench, who succeeded Robert Birley in 1964 at the age of 43.
A veteran of Japanese PoW camps, Chenevix-Trench had a fondness for the bottle and for beating his boys.
