REDROW AND THE POLICE – CURIOUSER AND CURIOUSER

Curiouser and Curiouser – Redrow and the Met police:
Some of the social housing at Commercial Street is ‘reserved for keyworkers like the police’ So how many cops living there? How come they now have a permanent control centre on the ground floor? How come Redrow are redeveloping the met police training centre at Hendon in partnership with the Met? How come the ‘affordable’ rents at commercial street are up to £3,000 a month? Meaning the only keyworkers who can afford them are cops not nurses and teachers? I think we could be on to a major scandal here.involving cops, developers, and Boris.

Planning guidance issued by both Camden and Eastbourne councils require developments with ‘mixed tenure” (ie ‘affordable’ and ‘market’ housing) to have separate entrances. Neither council allow mixed development on sites that cannot provide separate entrances – and they are probably not the only councils to do this.

Many Redrow housing developments are built to ‘Secured by Design’ requirements. ‘Secured by Design’ is a private company owned by ACPO (the Association of Chief Police Officers) which sets design standards and provides guidance to developers in order to “prevent crime through the layout of the development and by using quality security components and products”.
