Interesting fact 2,034:- Lady Astor, whilst being the first ever female MP was as Ian says, a Hitler loving, rabid anti-semite, and had an intense hatred of communists. BONE FOOTNOTE ******Actually Lady Astor wasn’t the first woman MP…that was Countess Markiewicz of Sinn Fein……Lady Astor was the first woman MP to take her seat in parliament -the Sinn Fein countess refusing to take her seat.
…That might explain why I’d never heard of her. Interesting concept though- a Republican Countess!
